Common condition in young women
PCOS is an ovarian condition that is commonly diagnosed in women who have irregular periods, and sometimes also excess hair growth and acne. The ultrasound findings are usually confirmed with hormone blood tests, which are organized by the referring doctor.
Transvaginal scan is normally performed and will take about 20 minutes. Scan with full bladder will be done when examining young patients who may not be sexually active.
Scan will show
- Size and shape of uterus
- Any abnormality such as Fibroids.
- Size and Volume of each ovary
- Numbers of follicles in each ovary
